Due Diligence Signals

Data-driven takeaways for brokers, underwriters, and lenders. Each signal derives directly from the operational data — no analyst opinion.
Vehicle OOS rate of 21.6% is +8% vs. the 20% national threshold — ongoing fleet condition risk.
Controlled Substances measure in the 96.5 national percentile — top 10% worst. Signals elevated underwriting risk.
20 insurance cancellations across carrier history — reflects sustained instability in carrier-insurer relationships.
8 fatal crashes over carrier's operational history — material tail-risk signal for any commercial counterparty.
Recent authority revocation on record — verify operating status before any commercial engagement.
152 inspections on record — high-density inspection history provides statistically meaningful safety signal.

Methodology & Data Sources

How WeighStation computes each score, which datasets it draws from, and known limitations.

All data in this report is sourced from the FMCSA Open Data Program (data.transportation.gov). WeighStation aggregates seven federal datasets into a unified carrier intelligence layer: Company Census File (4,421,015 records), SMS AB PassProperty (217,771 rated carriers current month), Crash File (4,923,291 records), AuthHist (4,926,924 records, LTRIM-normalized), InsHist (33,454 records), ActPendInsur, and OOS Orders.

WeighStation Score (0–100, higher is safer) Weighted composite of four components: Safety (40%, percentile rank on 5 BASIC measures), Insurance Stability (25%, function of cancellation count and revocation history), Crash Risk (20%, function of 24-month fatal/injury/total crash counts), and Authority Integrity (15%, function of active revocations and OOS orders). Percentile ranks computed monthly when SMS data refreshes. Window: trailing 24 months.

Tier assignment GREEN = 80–100 (low risk). YELLOW = 50–79 (moderate risk). RED = 0–49 (high risk). INSUFFICIENT DATA = SMS data present but fewer than 3 inspections. UNRATED = active carrier with no SMS record (typically intrastate, private, or new entrant).

Known limitations HazMat Compliance BASIC and Crash Indicator BASIC are not published by FMCSA in the SMS bulk download and are excluded from scoring. Crash counts reflect FMCSA's first-identified-vehicle convention, not total vehicles involved. Insurance and authority history tables are cumulative snapshots; carriers with complex multi-authority filings may appear in multiple history rows per event. BASIC percentile ranks are computed against the population of rated carriers only (those with ≥3 inspections), not the full carrier universe.

Data refresh cadence Carrier registry, authority, insurance, crash, and OOS data refresh daily at approximately 09:30 US Eastern Time. SMS BASIC measures refresh monthly. WeighStation Score recomputed monthly when SMS data updates, with force-recompute on any carrier's daily insurance/authority/crash event.

This report is not FMCSA-endorsed and is not a regulatory determination. WeighStation's composite scoring model is proprietary. All underlying data is public record.
